Amongst this selection, Many Shades Of House is including many very rare and hard to find titles, mostly never reissued on vinyl until now. Lea Lisa (Phonica Records, Wolf Music…) is a DJ, producer & vinyl addict who never stops digging and hasn’t since she first started in 1995. House music is so rich and varied that she naturally felt the desire to show and share this diversity. “Through this compilation I wanted to present artists and records that have greatly influenced me throughout my career. Whether through the strong messages they convey or through the emotions I felt discovering each of these vinyl.” said Lea Lisa. Carefully packed with long-forgotten US house gems (Transient’s groove keeper “Higher” and a 1997 NYC House tune from Kerri Chandler in his garage house days), iconic early house/techno treasure (Mark Goddard‘s “Truth”), intensive journeys (Passion Dance Orchestra) to atmospheric soundscapes (Pure Science), soulful grooves (Ron Trent‘s boogie infused “Can’t Change Me”) and timeless deep house gems (Slowhouse, Abacus). Created in 2005, Favorite Recordings presents a rich catalogue combining the productions of new artists with reissues of forgotten masterpieces all along the wide groove music spectrum, from Soul/Funk, Jazz, Disco, to Reggae, Hip-Hop, House or Electronic genres. Before launching Favorite. Pascal Rioux, founder and label honcho, started in the mid-90s with the House music label Rotax Disques. In 2014, following his meeting and affinity with French House DJ Jeremy Underground, they quickly collaborated on a series of compilations (My Love Is Underground) curated by Jeremy and reissuing some of his finest Underground House music hidden gems. Tracklist/Description: As we are looking forward to celebrate Loser Records' 5th anniversary this year, we are happy to continue our beloved podcast series and have our friend Marie Lung on board to take over this March's episode. Marie's love for music began at a young age, and she began DJing in her early 20ties in Hamburg. After honing her skills and gaining experience playing at local clubs and events, Marie began producing her own music, drawing inspiration from the underground house music scene in Berlin. As a DJ, Marie is known for her dynamic and engaging sets, which seamlessly blend together different styles of house music. Marie just returned from her first international Tour in India and her performances have taken her to some of the most prestigious festivals, including FUSION, GARBICZ or NACHTIVILLE and Clubs like Frankfurt’s ROBERT JOHNSON, Hamburg’s PUDEL or Berlin’s HEIDEGLÜHEN, to name just a few. She just released her debut EP „Ivy Blues“ on the Manchester based label „Dreaming Forever“ where she teamed up with techno veteran .VRIL and Session Victims’ own Matthias Reiling who delivered killer Remixes. If Marie is not in the DJ booth spinning records, you most likely find her on the floor. Though highly respected by her fellow jockeys for her mixing style and impeccable skill at that, she’s a fan first and a club kid at heart – which seems to be a major reason for her ability to immediately connect with different kinds of crowds in various settings. Despite her growing success, Marie remains grounded and focused on her art, constantly pushing herself to evolve and experiment with new sounds and techniques. With her unique style and infectious energy, Marie Lung is definitely an artist to watch in the world of house music. Records Berlin, Germany After coming into his element in recent years, Berlin based The Checkup looks to broaden his horizons even further in the coming period. Raphael has become synonymous with energetic house sounds of old and new, maintaining a soulful outlook as he meanders between animated productions, and positive storytelling with his DJ sets, both of which he has received global acknowledgement for. Whilst traveling around the world he finds himself on a never ending search for rare 90s house records, occupying the dustiest corners of record shops to uncover gems of the past. 2022 was notably the finest year to date for the vinyl enthusiast, he toured South America, played in European hotspots London, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid and Tbilisi and landed frequent action in Berlin at the likes of Sisyphos, Watergate, About Blank and Wilde Renate, the home of the Paradise Garage Hommage parties where he holds a residency, and assists with the bookings. His dynamic US house influenced sound has also seen him showcase his music on the legendary Nervous Records, Large Music, Madhouse, Toy Tonics and Meta to name a few. Bucket list material for the continuously rising French talent, flourishing at an alarming rate. Whilst balancing all of the above The Checkup continues to propel stellar sounds on his own Heatup Music, a project which has seen him sign the likes of Demuir, Elisa Elisa and Demarkus Lewis, a sought after label collaborating with some of the finest names in house music on a regular occurrence. On a day to day basis he holds down the fort at Beatport as the House curator, a nod of approval for his impeccable taste within the genre, and closely related vibes. It is to no surprise that in recent years The Checkup has received love and support from some of the most inspiring artists within the scene time and time again. A few artists who recognize the realness are Archie Hamilton, Jamie Jones, Kerri Chandler, Alinka, Ben Rau, Riva Starr, Mark Broom and Honey Dijon, a mixed bag of support marking the true versatility of his productions and personality in the booth, with some of his productions gracing the likes of the Panorama Bar dance floor. Tracklist/Description: House Saladcast 933 | Yoshi Horino UNKNOWN season / YoshiFum Tokyo, Japan Yoshi dove into the world of dance music by starting to DJ in 1991. From then on, he went on work as the house music buyer and sales clerk at the renowned record store in Shibuya, Dance Music Records, selling not only the hottest NY deep house but also introducing rather early in Japan, the then, up and coming house sounds coming out of the U.K. and Europe to the top DJs in Japan. In 1997, he decided to expand his horizons and actually produce music and joined one of Japan’s premier dance music record label, Flower Records, headed by Eitetsu Takamiya a.k.a. Little Big Bee, where he acted as their A&R, promotions head and sales chief. This might be where many started hearing his name. As Flower Records’ main guy, he steadily promoted their incredible stew of domestic acts such as Su Paka Pooh, Little Big Bee, Jazztronik amongst others, to the level that it is universally known now for. To note, around the same period, with the recommendation by DJ Cosmo, he began writing disc reviews periodically at The Loft, David Mancuso’s website column, ear candy where his eloquent taste of dance music became quite renowned throughout the world. In 2003, he went independent and started doing an assorted variety of work in the dance music field such as promoting domestic and international labels and artists in Japan such as Franck Roger, Raphael Sebbag of UFO, Kenichiro Nishihara amongst others, license coordination and bookings. From 2005, he began promoting the French label, Kitsune and helped to establish their presence and popularity in Japan. In 2010, he set up his own record label, UNKNOWN season. A label that releases credible, electronic, house, tech-house ambient tracks produced by up and coming as well as established, high quality Japanese creators to the world. With Yoshi’s trustworthy taste in music and knowledge of nurturing acts, this label’s quality has not gone unnoticed and has received regular praise and confidence by some of the top DJs such as Jimpster, Laurent Garnier, Brothers Vibe, Guy J, DJ Sneak and James Holden who heavily played Gonno’s remix of Ryoma Takemasa’s track, Deepn. He also regularly hosts a mix show called “UNKNOWN season Radio Show” at West Radio in Greece (www.westradio.gr) which is aired every last Sat., 7:00 AM (Japan time/ 6:00 AM Summer Time) so tune in to his and his crew’s delightful sounds. His recent release of original producing was "Fallin' House" with Break 3000(Dirt Crew) from V.A. "Deep Love 3" out of Dirt Crew Recordings 2013 Aug. And also remix of Werner Niedermeier & Gareth Whitehead’s track, Blaq (Yoshi Horino Remix) out of WiN Recordings was given the heads up by Dirt Crew, Silicone Soul, Pig & Dan, Luciano, Bookashade, Sasse, amongst others. Currently, he is busy producing, running his label and DJing regularly to help spread the auspicious sounds and vibes coming out of Japan, via UNKNOWN season. Tracklist/Description: Detroit might be synonymous with techno, but it also has a rich house tradition. And Rick Wade—FKA Big Daddy Rick—is one of Detroit house's key players. Along with the likes of Keith Worthy, Theo Parrish and the late Mike Huckaby (who Wade had a lifelong friendship and friendly rivalry with), he created a hybrid sound that is both techno and house, effortlessly soulful, sculpted and glowing—and Midwest to the core. As Tajh Morris said in a retrospective review of one of his classic records, "growing up in Buchanan, Michigan, meant that Wade was much closer to Chicago than he was to Detroit." Many of Wade's best records were released on Harmonie Park, his era-defining label that also featured plenty of work from Huckaby. Those EPs still sound fresh and timeless today, qualities that extend to Wade's RA Podcast, which features 90 minutes of smooth-as-butter house old and new. Over the years he's kept the flame burning for the smouldering sounds of Detroit house, working in sounds from younger producers like Folamour along the way. Tracklist/Description: Of the original crop of Detroit DJs, @delano_smith is one of the few still dedicated to the craft. At a time described as the Wild West by some, when party culture was taking its first tentative steps, Delano honed his skills under the guidance of the late, great Ken Collier. With initial sets fusing soul, disco and early electronic sounds, Delano planted seeds in the minds of Detroit’s subsequent generations. Those dancing to his sets in the late 70s and early 80s would later become ambassadors of a scene with worldwide appeal. Now, Delano stands shoulder to shoulder with the figureheads he once educated, writing a brand new chapter for house and techno. Following a period out of the game, Delano returned with a new focus, forming the DJ collective BeatDownSounds with long-time peers Norm Talley and @mikeagentx. The trio offered a unique, slowed down and raw take on house, a sound picked up by London/Tokyo label, @third-ear-recordings, and presented on the double-length compilation ‘Detroit BeatDown Vol.1’, the success of which enabled Delano and his partners to represent the Motor City on an international level. In 2002 his own Mixmode imprint. In 2009 Delano formed a pivotal relationship with the Berlin-based @sushitech, following a chance meeting with label head @yossi Amoyal, the setting Panorama Bar, a club that would later help define Delano’s musical direction. After a string of successful Sushitech EPs, Delano dropped ‘Odyssey’ onto the scene’s collective consciousness, an album spawning enduring dancefloor favourites. Two years later his sophomore long player arrived, loaded with dark and dubby material ‘Twilight’ was a curve ball to follow the hysteria that greeted his debut. 2017 saw Delano add yet another Sushitech LP to his discography, entitled ‘Detroit Lost Tapes’ it offered archived material, dug out and recontextualised with a worldwide tour following in support. With serious musical chops backing up his dance floor grooves, it's no wonder Toy Tonics have snapped him up to be part of their family, and his work continues to become ever-more sophisticated and infectious. He treats us to some works-in-progress in the mix alongside some of his tastiest morsels to date. *How would you describe your sound?* It’s sort of ever evolving but I’d say the thing that always plays a big role is that it’s very much a hybrid between club music and songwriting. I come from a background of playing in bands to production, and DJing was actually the last piece of the puzzle for me. *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* Many, many people and things. These days I’ve come back to composing my songs on instruments rather than in the box and started singing a lot more again. I’m also so fortunate to be part of a wonderful scene of artists between Berlin and London which is a constant inspiration. *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* It’s been a nice chance to delve back into things from the early days, something that I rarely ever do. I’ve started off with new stuff from recent records which represents my sound now, and then as I build up the confidence, I go into some current work in progress somewhere in the middle before going back to the very roots at the end. Tracklist/Description: Lex is a DJ and music producer hailing from Athens, Greece. With almost twenty years in the dance music business, Alex Andrikopoulos - his real name, is nowadays considered one of the key figures of the underground local club scene. In the beginning of the millennium he started 'Radical Soundz', one of the most important record stores and a substantial body of dance and electronic music culture of Athens, until 2009 when the beloved spot closed its doors. In such an inspired environment he trained and educated him self into what dance music is. Meanwhile he meets Greek DJ/producer Tolis Q and together they form 'Quantized Music', a house and techno label. At the same time he begins to spin regularly in the city's most renowned venues and when his first music productions are issued he starts to gain serious recognition. Nex step was the creation of an established club night. He cooperates with Locke, a DJ and music promoter, and they throw a fashinating series of parties under the name 'Move'. Nowadays Lex focuses on his music productions and DJ gigs. His versatile sound fuses elements from disco, house and techno often with a deep, soulful and organic feel to it. He is a regular at six d.o.g.s and Dybbuk, two of Athens' pioneering venues and also has appearances in important venues around the globe such as Wanderlust in Paris, Sisyphos and Chalet in Berlin, Output in New York, Club NL in Amsterdam, The Magic Roundabout in London, Rioma in Mexico City, Culture Box in Copenhagen, Zig Zag in Cairo, to name a few. Also in recent years, Alex has been very active as a producer. He has released music on labels such as Leng Records, Samosa, B2 Recordings and Black Riot while in 2022 his maiden release on Delusions of Grandeur and his first solo album on Leng Records is expected. @lex-athens 1.
